Shojo
In Italy there is sometimes some confusion about the term, and you think that any one is a shojo manga or anime that deals with emotional issues. The point is that a shojo is not such as to its contents, which may be of any type, but for the public to which it is addressed, that is, the female young. Within the genus there are many other subdivisions that seek to achieve in a capillary in older age restricted (from ten to twelve, twelve to fourteen, and so on). The most successful shojo, however, also employ older people, or even masculine.
Brief history of shojo manga

After being mostly created by authors men until the late sixties (one including all Osamu Tezuka), the shojo manga began to be made primarily by women, which deeply modify themes and graphics.

Long considered as a second-rate comics and little value, the statement of shojo manga you during the seventies, thanks to authors such as Riyoko Ikeda, Moto Hagio, Keiko Takemiya, and others.

Initially focused on emotional issues, with European settings and characters and melodramatic situations and idealized, the shojo manga expand over the years, the subjects treated, from horror to sports, science fiction, up to contemporary realism, typical of newer titles.

In recent years, however, authors such as Naoko Takeuchi, Kyoko Okazaki Moyoco year or more have preferred a faster graphics, intentionally thin and ugly, far from the idealism of shojo manga classic, in an attempt to paint more realistic contemporary alienation.

Among the subgenres particularly prosperous and substantial of the maho shojo manga are shojo (works fantastic character) and shonen'ai (works in background male homosexual).
The shojo in Italy

Despite one of the first original Japanese comics published in Italy, Candy Candy, was a shojo manga, and despite the success of its implementation souls, like that of other popular titles such as Georgie, Jenny Rose of Versailles or the tennis player, the genre has had many difficulty in breaking with the public our national. Even in the mid-nineties, for example, the attempt to bring Italy into a shojo manga classic, extremely popular, as Dear Brother, it proved very favorable for sales, often reinforcing the belief among publishers that publish shojo manga not guarantee a sufficient economic return.

Only in the late nineties that shojo manga can finally carve out their place among the Italian public, thanks to titles such as Mars, Marmalade Boy and courtyards of the heart, opening the way for many other works.

In the early years of this decade, in Italy the shojo manga you say definitely, with the translation of dozens and dozens of titles.
